"A PROUD LEGACY OF SERVICE TO DETROIT SINCE 1923"

The roots for the Travelers Aid Society of Metropolitan Detroit can be traced back to the early 1900s. First as part of St. John's Episcopal Church and later under leadership by the League of Catholic Women. The program began with the idea of ensuring a safe haven for new arrivals to the city, especially for women traveling with young children.

In 1923 the society became an independent, non-sectarian social welfare organization dedicated to addressing the plight of stranded travelers, transients and the homeless.

Over the years Travelers Aid has established an expertise in providing transitional shelter for the indigent as well as for developing innovative case management services interacting with other inter-city agencies. Our programs and services are constantly being expanded to better serve the entire community.

Today our legacy of helping thousands of travelers each year continues on at Metropolitan Airport with our Airport Ambassadors volunteer program. At our main offices in downtown Detroit our Homeward Bound programs counsel the homeless and those at risk of homelessness by helping them access food, clothing and housing.
